Porsche 911 Generations — 991/992 Malaysia Guide

991 (2011–2019): 3.4L/3.8L NA or 3.0L turbo (991.2) — IMS fixed, but some 991.1 chain issues. 992 (2019+): all-turbo, 8-speed PDK, better reliability. Malaysia used: 992 Carrera is the starting point. 991.2 GTS is the performance value buy. Avoid 991.1 without checking IMS and chain.

Porsche 911 Generations Guide

  • 996 (1997–2005): M96 engine — IMS and RMS risk; cheap to buy, expensive to maintain
  • 997.1 (2005–2008): M96 still — IMS risk remains; 997.2 (2008–2012) fixed IMS
  • 991 (2012–2019): MA1 engine — no IMS; direct injection carbon concern begins
  • 992 (2019+): 9A2 Evo — no IMS, most refined; RMS and carbon are the only concerns
