Proton Exora
2009–present · 1.6T CFE (Campro turbo, port injection)
The Proton Exora (2009+) is Malaysia's long-running 7-seater MPV. The 1.6T CFE engine uses port injection — NO carbon buildup on intake valves (unlike Geely-engine Protons). ATF every 40,000 km. The CVTi variant (early) is less reliable than the 6AT. Aging platform but bulletproof engine — cheap and widely understood by local workshops.

Proton Persona
2016–present · 1.6L VVT CAMPRO
The Proton Persona (2016+) uses the 1.6L VVT CAMPRO engine with a Punch CVT. The CVT fluid must be changed every 40,000 km — a specific Punch CVT fluid is required, not Toyota WS. Timing belt service at 60,000 km is critical. CVT shudder and belt noise are the top ownership concerns in Malaysia.

Proton S70
2023–present · 1.5T TGDi (3-cylinder, Geely-derived, direct injection)
The Proton S70 (2023+) is Proton's first proper sedan since the Wira era, based on the Geely Emgrand/Binrui platform. The 1.5T 3-cylinder TGDi with 7-speed wet DCT shares its core with the X50. Direct injection means carbon buildup at 60,000–80,000 km. DCT fluid every 40,000 km is critical. Practical sedan for value-conscious buyers.

Proton Saga
2016–present · 1.3L VVT CAMPRO (naturally aspirated)
The Proton Saga BVT (2016+) is Malaysia's most affordable national car, powered by the 1.3L VVT CAMPRO engine. The timing belt must be changed every 60,000 km — the most critical maintenance item. A/C compressor failure and oil leaks from the cam cover are common at high mileage. Simple and cheap to maintain if serviced correctly.

Proton X50
2020–present · 1.5T TGDi (3-cylinder, Geely-derived, direct injection)
The Proton X50 (2020+) uses Geely's 1.5T 3-cylinder TGDi engine with a 7-speed wet DCT. Direct injection means carbon buildup at 60,000–80,000 km. 3-cylinder inherent vibration is normal. DCT fluid every 40,000 km prevents shudder. Early X50 units had DCT calibration issues — software update resolves most cases.

Proton X70
2018–present · 1.8T TGDI (Geely-derived, direct injection)
The Proton X70 (2018+) uses a Geely-derived 1.8T TGDI turbocharged direct-injection engine — carbon buildup on intake valves is expected at 60,000–80,000 km. DCT variants require DCT fluid every 40,000 km. The 6-speed Aisin AT is reliable. Early DCT units (2018–2020) had shudder issues; updated calibration from 2021.

Proton X90
2023–present · 1.5T TGDi + 48V mild hybrid (Geely-derived, direct injection)
The Proton X90 (2023+) is Proton's 7-seater flagship SUV based on the Geely Haoyue/Xingyue L platform. The 1.5T TGDi 4-cylinder with 48V mild hybrid delivers strong performance. Direct injection means carbon buildup at 60,000–80,000 km. DCT fluid every 40,000 km. 48V BSG belt inspection critical at 60,000 km. Most complex Proton to service.
