Proton X90 Common Problems Malaysia
The Proton X90 (2023+) is Proton's 3-row 7-seater flagship SUV using the 1.5T TGDi engine (same family as X50/S70) paired with a 7-speed wet DCT and a 48V mild-hybrid system. The 48V belt-starter-generator (BSG) assists the engine and enables micro-regenerative braking. Direct injection means carbon concern at 60,000–80,000 km. The X90 is heavier than X70 — suspension, brake, and DCT loads are higher.
Top Issues
- •DCT shudder at low speed (same DCT as X50/S70) — fluid and software update
- •Carbon buildup 60,000–80,000 km (direct injection)
- •48V BSG belt wear — check at 80,000 km; RM 350–600 belt replacement
- •Heavier SUV = brake pads 40,000 km check; struts wear earlier than X50
- •3-row cabin: 3rd-row A/C duct and rear blower efficiency — clean rear vents annually
