Fortuner 6AT Gearbox Fluid — ATF WS
Fortuner 6-speed automatic uses Toyota ATF WS (World Standard). Full drain capacity: 8.5L. Partial service (drain-and-fill): approximately 4L. Change every 40,000–60,000 km. The 6AT on the Fortuner is a heavy-duty unit designed for towing — when used for towing, change ATF every 40,000 km. Old ATF causes hesitation between 2nd and 3rd gear and eventually solenoid damage. Cost: RM 350–550 full drain at our Bandar Sri Damansara workshop.
Toyota Gearbox Fluid — Malaysia Guide
Toyota petrol automatics use ATF WS (World Standard) — do NOT substitute with Dexron III or generic ATF, which can cause harsh shifts and seal damage. CVT models use Toyota Genuine CVT Fluid TC — never use generic CVT fluid. For Hilux/Fortuner 6AT diesel: use Toyota ATF WS, change every 40,000–60,000 km. The CVT fluid for Vios/Yaris is often listed as 'lifetime' — change it every 40,000–60,000 km in Malaysian conditions to prevent CVT judder.
