Diesel engines produce more vibration than petrol engines — the Innova 1GD-FTV's compression ignition combustion cycle creates larger vibration pulses than a petrol 1TR-FE. Engine mounts therefore wear faster on diesel Innovas. Signs of worn mounts: noticeable vibration through the steering wheel and floor at idle; vibration surge when engaging Drive or Reverse from Park; clunking sound on hard acceleration. Inspect at 80,000 km. Cost: RM 200–450 per mount, typically 2–3 mounts need replacement.
Engine Mount Wear in Malaysian Conditions
Toyota engine mounts typically show wear at 80,000–120,000 km — city stop-start accelerates degradation. Signs: vibration at idle (especially with A/C on), thud when engaging Drive, steering wheel tremor at traffic lights. 4-cylinder Vios/Yaris/Altis mounts cost RM 80–160 each; V6 Alphard/Vellfire mounts are RM 200–400. For Hilux/Fortuner diesel — the high-torque diesel causes mounts to wear faster than petrol equivalents; inspect at 70,000 km. Always replace in pairs at minimum.
