Iridium Plugs — the Right Choice for TSI
The Passat's 1.8 TSI / 2.0 TSI direct-injection turbo engine requires iridium spark plugs. Using cheaper copper or platinum plugs causes rough idle, misfires, and can damage ignition coils which are expensive to replace on VW TSI engines. Always replace all plugs as a complete set and inspect ignition coils while the engine cover is off. Iridium plugs last 60,000 km vs 20,000 km for copper — despite the higher upfront cost, they are cheaper per kilometre over their service life.
