The TT uses a smart alternator with regenerative charging — it only charges heavily during deceleration, not at cruise. This saves fuel but the battery must be healthy to store the energy efficiently. A weak battery forces the alternator to overwork, leading to premature failure. Always address battery health before replacing an alternator, and always register the new battery via VCDS after replacement.
