Perodua Ativa Carbon — Port Injection
Perodua Ativa · 2021–present
Perodua Ativa uses port fuel injection (not direct injection) — fuel sprays before the intake valve, washing it clean on every cycle. Carbon buildup on intake valves is NOT a concern. Throttle body cleaning every 40,000 km is the only carbon-related maintenance needed.
Carbon Buildup in Malaysian Urban Use
The NR-VE uses port fuel injection (not direct injection), so carbon buildup on intake valves is less severe than turbocharged direct-injection engines. However, short urban trips without occasional highway runs accumulate combustion deposits. Every 6 months, take the car on a 30-minute highway run at 3,000+ rpm to burn off deposits. Carbon cleaning (walnut blasting) is rarely needed on Perodua engines — be skeptical of workshops recommending it unnecessarily.
