Proton Exora Common Problems Malaysia
The Proton Exora (2009+) uses the 1.6T CFE (Campro turbo) engine with port injection — unlike Geely-engine Protons, there is NO carbon buildup on intake valves. The CFE uses a timing chain (no belt to replace). ATF every 40,000 km is the most critical service. Early CVTi variants are less reliable than the 6-speed AT — avoid if buying used.
Top Issues
- •ATF neglect — 6AT harsh shifts after 80,000 km without fluid change
- •CVTi failure (early Exora) — slipping, no drive; expensive to repair; stick to 6AT variants
- •A/C compressor failure at 80,000–120,000 km — RM 700–1,200 replacement
- •Engine mount vibration at 100,000+ km (3 mounts); RM 220–380 each
- •Power sliding door (MPV) track wear — clean and lubricate every 20,000 km
