Toyota Rush Carbon Cleaning Guide
Rush 2NR-VE uses port injection — carbon build-up on intake valves is minimal. Carbon cleaning needed only if idle is rough past 80,000 km with irregular oil changes.

Rush Carbon Cleaning — VVT-i Intake Deposits
The 2NR-VE uses port fuel injection (not direct injection) which means fuel washes the intake valves on every cycle — carbon build-up is less severe than GDI engines. However, low-quality fuel and short city trips still cause gradual deposits in the intake manifold and throttle body. Clean the throttle body every 40,000 km (RM 60–100). Full intake cleaning for severe cases: RM 200–350. Signs of carbon build-up: rough idle, hesitation when pulling away from standstill.
Carbon Cleaning — Toyota Direct Injection
Toyota's newer engines (Harrier M20A-FKS, Veloz 3NR-VE turbo, Camry A25A-FXS) use direct injection and are more prone to intake valve carbon buildup than older port-injection engines. Short urban trips accelerate buildup. Every 6 months, take a 30-minute highway run at 3,500+ rpm to burn off deposits. An intake valve carbon cleaning service (walnut blasting or chemical clean) costs RM 400–800 and is recommended every 50,000–80,000 km for direct-injection engines. Port-injection engines (1NZ-FE, 2NZ-FE) rarely need this service.
