Which VW Generation to Buy in Malaysia
Engine and gearbox generation matter more than model year. Avoid pre-2012 EA888 engines (chain tensioner risk) and early DQ200 dry-clutch DSG (post-2014 units are significantly improved). EA211 1.4 TSI has a timing belt — replace at 120,000 km. For trouble-free ownership, target post-2015 variants with EA888 Gen 3B and DQ250 wet-clutch or Tiptronic.
