Change the cabin filter every 15,000 km or annually in Malaysia — during haze season (June–October), reduce to 10,000 km. An activated carbon combination filter (RM 50–120) provides better protection against VOCs and PM2.5 particles during haze. Mazda's ventilation system recirculates cabin air when AUTO mode is active — a clogged cabin filter causes the A/C to work harder and increases fuel consumption. Replacement is straightforward on most Mazda models (under the glove box) and can be DIY in 10–15 minutes.
