SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission requires Mazda Genuine ATF MV or equivalent JATCO JM1-spec fluid. Using generic Dexron/Mercon fluid causes hunting between gears and premature clutch wear. Though Mazda lists 6AT as sealed-for-life, Malaysian driving conditions (heat, city traffic) degrade ATF faster — a fluid change at 60,000 km is recommended by local specialists. Drain-and-fill (not flush) at RM 250–400 for parts + labour at independent workshops. CX-8 with i-ACTIV AWD has an additional rear differential — check fluid separately at 60,000 km.
