Yaris petrol: DOT 3 brake fluid, change every 2 years. Yaris Hybrid: DOT 3 but the brake system also includes the brake control ECU (brake-by-wire) — degraded fluid with high moisture content can cause brake system errors in the Yaris Hybrid's integrated brake control system. Change every 2 years strictly. A moisture-contaminated brake system on a hybrid shows as a 'hybrid system warning' or 'brake system warning' on the dashboard. Cost: RM 70–100.
Brake Fluid — Malaysia Humidity
Malaysia's high humidity causes DOT 3/DOT 4 brake fluid to absorb moisture faster — flush every 2 years regardless of mileage. Degraded fluid lowers the boiling point and can cause brake fade on extended downhill driving (common on Genting, Bukit Tinggi, Cameron Highlands roads). Use DOT 4 for a higher dry boiling point. Brake fluid flush costs RM 60–100 at most workshops. For Hilux/Fortuner that regularly tow heavy loads, consider flushing every 18 months.
