Smart Charging and Battery Interaction
The Golf uses a smart alternator with regenerative charging — charging heavily during deceleration, lightly during cruise. This saves fuel but requires a healthy AGM battery to store energy efficiently. A weak battery causes the alternator to overwork, leading to premature alternator failure. Always diagnose battery health before replacing an alternator.
