- Mk7.5 (2017–2019): updated DQ200 software; improved but judder can still occur
- Mk8 (2020+): 1.5 eTSI + DQ381 wet-clutch — significantly more reliable; digital cockpit
Which VW Generation to Buy in Malaysia
When choosing a used Golf in Malaysia, engine and gearbox generation matter more than year. Avoid pre-2012 EA888 engines (timing chain tensioner risk) and the early DQ200 dry-clutch DSG (DQ200 units before 2012 are problematic; post-2014 units are significantly improved). The EA211 1.4 TSI with a timing belt needs belt replacement at 120,000 km. For the most trouble-free ownership, target post-2015 variants with the EA888 Gen 3B engine and a DQ250 wet-clutch DSG or Tiptronic. At 4M Car Care we offer free generation identification for any Golf you are considering.
