The Tiguan uses electric power steering (EPS) with no hydraulic fluid to service. However EPS is not maintenance-free: the steering column bearing and EPS motor are wear items. Replacing the EPS unit requires VCDS coding to the vehicle VIN — without coding, the steering warning light will illuminate. Common EPS symptoms in Malaysia: groaning on full lock in hot car parks, variable steering effort at highway speed (EPS adaptation issue), or a persistent steering warning light. VCDS can read EPS torque sensor data and motor current to diagnose faults.
