DOT 4 — change every 2 years. EPB rear caliper: moisture causes piston seizure and EPB fault codes. Malaysia cost RM 180–320. Use VW/Audi OEM DOT 4 or Castrol React equivalent. Cabriolet: check brake line routing at soft-top hinge — chafing causes fluid weep at high mileage.

Hygroscopic Fluid in Malaysia's Humidity
Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air (hygroscopic), and Malaysia's year-round humidity accelerates this process. As water content rises, the boiling point drops — during hard braking on highways or downhill, boiling fluid causes vapour lock and brake fade. The A5's DOT 4 LV spec fluid should be changed every 2 years without exception. At 4M Car Care we use a digital brake fluid tester to measure moisture content at every major service — if water content exceeds 3%, a flush is recommended immediately regardless of schedule.
