Audi A5 Power Steering Malaysia
A5 8T: electro-hydraulic power steering (EHPS) — pump driven by electric motor, still uses fluid. Check fluid every 40,000 km. Low fluid: heavy steering and pump whine. B9 A5: fully electric power steering (EPS) — no fluid. Steering column software adaptations via VCDS after replacement. Malaysia EHPS pump RM 1,200–2,500; EPS rack RM 2,000–4,500.

A5 Power Steering
- EPS (electric) — no hydraulic fluid to change
- EPS warning or steering pull: VCDS scan for electric steering module fault codes
- EPS column failure: RM 1,300–2,400
Audi EPS — No Fluid, But Maintenance Exists
The A5 uses electric power steering (EPS) — there is no hydraulic fluid to check or change. However EPS is not maintenance-free: the steering column bearing and EPS motor are wear items, and the system requires correct VCDS coding if the EPS unit is replaced. Common EPS symptoms in Malaysia: groaning or whining on full lock in car parks (especially in heat), variable steering weight at highway speed (usually an EPS adaptation issue), or a steering warning light. VCDS can read EPS torque sensor data and motor current draw to diagnose early faults.
